Sasawashi is a new type of fabric made from washi paper and the kumazasa plant. Also known as 'sasa', the leaves of the kumazasa plant have long been used to wrap and preserve food in Japan. The kumazasa fibers are blended into the washi during the papermaking process, after which the paper is cut into strips and twisted into yarns to be woven into fabric. The absorbent properties of the washi combined with the durable and antibacterial properties of the kumazasa plant has led to the creation of this new all-natural material unlike no other.
