Takenobu Igarashi had been illustrating animals since his student days, and in 1973, he showcased these works in his first solo exhibition, Animal Illustrations, at Gallery Fujie in Tokyo. The exhibition featured large-format silkscreen prints on aluminum, acrylic, and fabric, marking the beginning of his creative journey. Among the pieces, Igarashi had a particular fondness for his rounded, gently featured elephant designs. However, producing these small elephant ornaments proved extremely challenging, leading to a halt in production. Later, in collaboration with Kurihara Seiki Co., Ltd., a company specializing in high-precision machining technology, production was successfully revived, resulting in the birth of the Elephant Series. Available in medium and large sizes, these finely machined aluminum ornaments serve as elegant paperweights or desktop sculptures to admire.
