The Story

Description:

Susumuya presents three distinct matcha expressions, Haku, Sen, and An, each offering a different balance of depth, texture, and everyday usability.

Haku
Refined and lifted. Haku offers a clear, bright profile with a smooth, lighter body and a clean, well-defined finish. The umami is present but restrained, giving it a transparent and composed character. It is well suited for straight preparation, offering clarity without heaviness.

Sen
Balanced and versatile. Sen is designed for daily use, with a steady profile that brings together gentle sweetness and soft umami. The texture is smooth and adaptable, moving easily between straight preparation and milk-based drinks. The most flexible and suited for everyday use.

An
Deep and complete. An is the highest-grade expression, with a fuller body, rounded umami, and a dense, smooth texture. The flavor is layered and continuous, with a lingering, soft finish. Best experienced on its own, where its depth and balance can fully emerge.

Across all three, the focus remains consistent: matcha as part of everyday life, not confined to ceremony but adaptable to different rhythms and settings.

Measurements:

30 grams

History:

Founded in 2012 in Kagoshima, Susumuya is rooted in a long lineage of tea expertise. Its founder, Kotaro Shinbara, comes from a family of tea wholesalers spanning generations, and is the grandson of Nijiro Shinbara.

From the beginning, Susumuya has approached tea as both product and culture. The company sources and produces high-quality Japanese teas, particularly from Kagoshima and Chiran, while also developing its own line of teaware to support how tea is prepared and experienced.

Working with designers such as Masanori Oji and skilled artisans across Japan, Susumuya creates teapots, cups, and utensils that emphasize proportion, material, and ease of use. These objects are designed not as ceremonial artifacts, but as tools for daily life, reflecting a broader intention to reintegrate Japanese tea into contemporary routines.

Materials:

Green Tea Powder (Matcha)

Care Instructions:
